Snack.
(via Tavi's tumblr)
I'm working on some new muslin mock ups and patterns today. But until those are done, here is something cute I found from the Alexander Wang show, backstage. (Tequila shots for those who don't fall!!!)

First mock up.
I finished my first mock up on Wednesday. I'll scan the original sketch soon, along with the mostly finalized 'collection'. I don't like calling it a collection, it sounds more pretentious than it is. Body of work? System? Meh.
The uh... grouping of clothes, is just about resolved, in terms of design. My ticket to New York is booked for October, after which I'll then be able to paint my finishes and render them from the fabric I'll be using.

This dress is definitely a cocktail look, which I honestly wasn't going for originally. But it's still cute, I'm excited to see what fabrics to make it out of. The back will have a large exposed zipper down the strap. I'll be able to fit this mock up on a person once I scavenge some closures from the costume shop. It's hard to tell in these pictures, but the center front panel transitions from fitted to a drape, kinda cool I think.

Backtrack.
Forgot to explain that:
1.) "Pieces" is my senior studio, taught by my professor, Dylan. In this class we must design a product or system, and create the entire identity and world in which that product or system lives. I am designing a collection of apparel. 10 looks. (hopefully). That will be completed in December of this year (a.k.a. the end of this semester.)
2.) I have a studio that I share with the rest of my classmates.
And with that out of the way, here is my studio!
I live at the end of what Dylan has dubbed "Asian Alley".
Statement?
After rethinking some things...
Originally I was inspired by anatomy. The symmetry, the softness of muscle and shapes of nerves, whatnot. But I kept finding that my drawings were just too soft, too much drape going on.

I've stepped back from that idea now. I'm thinking more of a contrast between "innards" and "outters", exoskeleton and soft insides. Dylan (my professor) suggested taking it out further, maybe how we present ourselves outwardly in contrast to who we are inside. I don't want to define this inspiration aspect too much, I don't want my designs to be limited by too detailed of a design statement.
